Alright, so the idea is that it will based on Wood Elves, the traditional, and the modern, whom are known as "Steam Elves" of which will be better explained shortly.
Despite being the same race of elves, and the same colony, a rift has grown, there are the more old fashioned elves that stick to the old laws, and old rules, then the more innovative elves, that have branched into the new era, building things with their hands that run on sources other than magic, different from the old ways. Families were torn apart, relationships severed, all over pride.
Some are left on the fence, unwilling to stray, yet so tempted, at the same time... It's hardest for the younger generations that are keeping to the old ways, many lost friends because of it, and honor is the only thing binding them their families in many cases.
It remains to be seen if the gap can be bridged, and, if either side is willing to cross it.

Name: Unni Aaker
Age: 46
Sex: Female
Position: Eldest daughter of noble family Aaker.
Appearance: Her hair is long, and a pale green, the texture of silken thread, usually left to hang free, unless some special occasion calls for something different. She was fair skin, deep green, laughing eyes, and a soft smile. Her body is a bit more mature than her age, with nicely rounded curves, and long slender legs. (not the best description, but, it’ll do for now. I’ll get a picture posted before too long.)
Background: Being the first born daughter of one of the oldest noble families meant she was primed and prepped almost from the time she was born, for a marriage arranged before she was born, should she be a girl. It wasn’t a very fun way to grow up, but it was the only way she knew so she didn’t mind too much, and even enjoyed some of it. Such as the dancing lessons, learning the various spells and enchantments used to heal, or to provide comfort and safe passage into the beyond to those whose passing was near, be it tree, animal, or elf.
She was taught how to pray to the gods of the trees, rain, earth, and sky, what were acceptable gifts to present, and all of the special rituals that must be performed before them when in askance of something specific, safe travels for oneself or others, a successful marriage, healthy child, healing of an illness, and so on. With that she also learned that the gods frowned upon the ‘Steam Elves’ for not keeping to the old ways, and that to consort with them was a great crime against them, but that one might repent and seek forgiveness, for the gods were kind and good.
It was easy to believe all that she was told, until she saw the way the Steam Elves were treated, even the ones that came back to the old ways, and she began to question in secret if it was to be believed after all. If the gods were so great and loving, should they not love and accept all? Even the ones who were different? If they still loved murders and thieves, why not the others, as well? She voiced that question once to her parents, who looked upon her with shock and disappointment, but chalked it up to childish naivety, assuring her that the ones that used machines were in the wrong, and that she needed to seek forgiveness for her transgression of doubt. She complied, and asked no more questions about it, but the doubt still sat there, and even increased when she met her betrothed and heard his views on the Steam Elves, hearing how he thought they were nothing but trash, and should be destroyed.
She’s been able to put off the wedding, or rather, had it put off for her, due to her betrothed deciding he needed to go on some grand quest, before he was ready for marriage, and there is no telling how long he will be away, so for now, she’s safe from having to betray her family, still, there may come a day when she leaves, one day where her doubt in what she was taught grows too great.
Personality: She’s very innocent by nature, and loves to laugh, her laugh which in and of itself is musical and mirthful. It’s hard for her to turn away anyone or anything that asks, or needs her help, despite being told that she needs to be careful, and more firm about turning others away by her parents. That is one thing they can’t break her of. She’s highly trusting, which can be asset or a fault, depending on the situation, and she is very obedient, however she does have moments where she feels the rebellious streak within her winning out, and tempting her. She keeps it in check, though, and hasn’t let it lead her to do anything rash, for now, at least.

Here's my first character: Name: Hugh Crowhurst
Age: 56
Sex: Male
Position: Steam elf, born to parents who are outcasts.
Appearance: Hugh is a half-breed. Standing at 5'9", having hazel colored eyes, with copper hair and freckles under his eyes and across his nose. He has the normal fair skin of elvish kind, but his hands are a little larger than normal, with fingers that are a little stubbier. Like the hands of a true blacksmith or machinist. His shoulders are thin, like the normal elvish build, but his legs are shorter than what you would expect. Whether you're an elf or a human looking at Hugh, it's easy to tell that he's a half-breed.
Background: Hugh was born to outcast parents. His mother being an elvish commoner and his father being a human from a far village. The Wood Elves wouldn't allow this kind of relationship to exist within their borders, so the family was banished. The separatists, or Steam Elves, welcomed them with open arms, but suspicious glances to the child that they bore. All his life he grew up knowing that he wasn't like the others, so he used it to his advantage. Since they thought so low of him already, he used this to do whatever he wanted. He studied what he wanted, instead of studying the normal subjects like mathematics and history and such. He was more interested in the machines and the mechanics of them. He much preferred learning about how to build them.
While growing up, his parents taught him that the traditional ways were all wrong. Praying to the gods did hardly anything. They encouraged him to do what he wanted, letting him make a lot of his own decisions while only pointing him away from the really bad ones. Only when he asked, that is. There was a period where Hugh tried following the old ways, praying to the gods of the forest and such, but nothing came of it. These upbringings didn't make him despise the traditionalists, but rather turned them into an oddity to Hugh. He would watch their rituals, how they strode about with an air of authority wherever they went, and thought it was rather fun to mock them from time to time.
After his schooling, Hugh became an apprentice to a Machinist. Tinkering with materials, building tools and machines to make things that automated his life. Despite his love of automation, he's not very lazy. He'd rather make machines to help him climb trees, or to fly through the sky, or to travel along the ground faster than any horse can. He already has made a few of these machines, including a grappling hook that can fire from his waist so that he can zip through the trees like a squirrel. Only a few elves are able to use this device without seriously injuring themselves, Hugh included.
Nowadays, Hugh spends his time tinkering, selling his inventions to whoever wants to manufacture them, exploring, and seeing how far he can get into the Wood Elf cities before being caught and forcibly removed. They wouldn't out-and-out kill him, since that would risk setting off war. They also would be as kind as they could with removing him, since they didn't want to be seen as violent. Hugh still gets all the fun he wants, running from authorities and flirting with high-born girls.
Personality: Hugh is very carefree and fun loving. He's not prone to addictive substances, preferring to be as free willed as possible. He likes flying, by any means necessary. That's why he invents. He's often been called a dreamer, gazing into nothingness while he imagines the next machine he wants to build. He's not very frugal, either. He gets paid a good sum for every invention, so he can afford to spend extra on the better materials. He also loves to make people uncomfortable.
