Hunger Games type Roleplay OOC

Ever read Hunger Games? Maybe you haven't? Let me give you a run down.

In the distant future, the country is divided. There are twelve districts and the Capitol. There used to be thirteen, but the thirteenth district rebelled against the Capitol. The Capitol quickly put a stop to the rebellion and destroyed the thirteenth district. Then, as a reminder to the remaining districts, the Capitol flexed their power and demanded tributes from each district. Two tributes, one male and one female between the ages of 12 and 18, to be offered for the Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games themselves would be defined as a battle royale between the tributes. They were annual games, with tours from the victors happening in the middle of the year as well. The tributes aren't supposed to receive formal training before entering in to the games. If the Peacekeepers saw that a district was training tributes, the operation would be shut down. Of course, that didn't stop wealthier districts from doing so. The tributes that received special training were known as "Career Tributes." The citizens of the Capitol would watch the Hunger Games for entertainment. To make sure that the ratings stayed up, there would be a Game Master who had full control over the field.

When choosing the tributes, each district was visited by a representative of the capitol on a day they call "The Reaping." The representative would then draw from a bowl of names and choose who would be the tributes. There was a bowl for the girls, and a bowl for the boys. Most of the time, the younger children didn't have as much of a chance as the older children, since the amount of times your name was entered grew exponentially with each year, but children could sign up for tesserae, which would give them more supplies for their family. When signing up for tesserae, the children's names would be entered in to the bowl again for each tessera entered. Of course, on the day of the Reaping, another child in the pool of potential tributes can volunteer to go into the Games in the place of who has been picked.

There could only be one victor for the Hunger Games. All the others had to die for that one person to get out alive.

Since this roleplay involves injury and death, you are not allowed to kill or injure someone without their permission. Since we have few members, there will be empty tributes for you to either kill or team up with. Of course, you will have to write for them. You are not allowed to take more than two extra characters. So, a maximum of 3 characters per person.

Since there is no way that we can have multiple people win (that only happens in the actual book), there will be a system of elimination. Dice roll. I will assign each character that joins a number. When that number is rolled, they die. Write your backstory however you want, whether you're a child from a wealthier district who was trained to be in the Games or you were born not so lucky and had to survive in the poorer districts and ended up being in the games.

For your first post in the roleplay, you can start wherever you'd like as long as it is before the Reaping. I'll announce when we'll be skipping forward to different parts.

I'll want a profile written out for each character you choose. Here's a skeleton:

Once we have enough characters filled, I'll open up the roleplay. Characters can still be taken after the roleplay is open up to the time the Hunger Games begin. Any stray characters will be killed off in the initial bloodbath at the cornucopia.

There will also be one Game Master that rotates between the mods as necessary. The posts will be in a bright green colour, so watch out for this particular color of posts.

For you wondering what the districts represent, here's a list of the industries that they worked with. You may be able to use this to your advantage.

District 1- Luxury

District 2- Masonry/Stonework

District 3- Electronics

After District 3, career tributes stop. The rest of the districts don't have enough wealth to fund training the tributes.

District 4- Fishing

District 5- Power

District 6- Transportation

District 7- Lumber

District 8- Textiles (Manufacture of cloth or woven fabric)

District 9- Grain

District 10- Livestock (Farm animals kept for use or profit)

District 11- Agriculture (The science or practice of farming)

Name: Lynch Condor

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Weapon of Choice: Hammers. Whether thrown or wielded, he likes hammers. It must come from his district.

Looks: Lynch is very muscular. He's 5'9" with short blonde hair and brown eyes.

Personality: Lynch is unforgiving. If you do him wrong in any way, he will hurt you right then and there. The entire district spoiled him since he was a career tribute, so he just took everything he wanted. He's not the most intelligent, but he does have cunning and great planning abilities. He always tries to be five steps ahead of the competition. He likes to talk, more than you would expect. But he won't talk unless you're talking about something he wants to talk about.

Background: When Lynch was born, the mayor had been present. He was looking for the next career tribute. He spoke with Lynch's parents, convinced them to give up their son to become a career tribute, then took Lynch into the care of the district. From a young age, he was trained to fight. Lynch had other interests, though. When he wasn't fighting, he would take up playing chess with the mayor's son. They would play for hours and hours, until something else that had to be done came up.

For a while, Lynch took up masonry. Since he wasn't required to work, he did it as a hobby. He would build sculptures of his former parents, of the mayor, of that year's winner of the Hunger Games, of whatever he desired. He wasn't the best sculptor, but he did show prowess with hammers. The chess he played with the mayor's son also helped with his strategic thinking.

Now that he's 18, it's his time to volunteer for the Games. He's ready for them, ready to be the one in the arena and to come out victorious.

Name: Satin Briggs
Age: 16
Gender: Female
District: 8
Weapon of Choice: Small knives/Scissors.
Looks: She has short, wavy red hair that has a tendency to fall into her eyes when she is working, those of which as a greenish-brown colour. She has an almost overly slender, narrow frame that seems deceptively fragile. Typically she wears simple clothing that fits whatever season it happens to be, some of it a bit worn from being once owned by an older sibling, but still holding up. (Picture will be posted soon)
Personality: She is quiet, not one for talking really, but she will if she must, and even then she says as little as possible. She has a somewhat nurturing attitude from watching after her eldest brother’s children when they were small and he was out working, and after their mother had passed away from illness. She is a hard worker, not afraid to work long hours to earn what she wants, but also unwilling to pick up the work load of another, her mindset being that you need to do your own work and not expect everyone else to pick it up for you. She comes across as cold more often than not because of her silence, however she isn’t as cold as people seem to think.
Background: She was the youngest in a family of five, with two older brothers, leaving her the only girl aside from her mother. She spent a lot of time with her mom growing up, maybe even more so than was the usual, since she never really made friends, she had her mother and brothers, and didn’t see the need for anyone else. She learned the art of textiles at a young age by watching her mother work, and sometimes tagging along with one of her brothers, up until she started learning about it in school. She wasn’t the smartest in class, but she wasn’t unintelligent either. She never could find the motivation to apply herself to her studies, they quite honestly bored her more than anything else, and while she pulled decent grades they could have been better if she tried.

As soon as she started working with anything cloth though, that got her full attention. She worked hard at her job from the moment she was given one, more than anything because she loved the smell and feel of fresh cotton, which is what she was assigned to work with. It became a bit of a joke amongst her coworkers considering her name, she never seemed to acknowledge their teasing.

She tends to avoid discussing the reapings at all, since her brothers were both old enough to be out of danger, she knew she still was but never paid much mind to it, she had more important things to think about, like making sure her family was well taken care of, and cooking. Odd as it might sound she loved cooking. As much as she loved working with cotton, she loved cooking more and often found herself wishing she could spend the rest of her days as a chef. Those dreams were unreasonable and she knew it so she tried to not think about it too much, pushing it to the back of her mind just like she did with reapings.

Age: 12

Gender: Male

District: 11

Weapon of Choice: (this is optional) anything that cuts. He isnt peaky.

Looks: Is around 143cm. Has light brown hair that goes to his ears. Big chocolate brown eyes. Isnt that strong, but is flexible good at running. Used to wear shorts and simple shirts. From time to time a green jacket he got from his older brother as a present.

Personality: He is from the shy sort. Would prefer to hide rather then speak to new people. Still a lot of childish in his way of looking at the world. But once he knows someone as a friend he is cheerful and lovingly. Smiling a lot and being often called a adorable behaving boy. He has a fear of ghost even if he would hardly admit it even if he ends up crying. The only thing he was really good was holding out when helping his parents whit work and running, as he enjoyed that greatly to do.

Background: He lived whit his family happily working on the fields. His father and mother and a older brother that he though of highly off. There lives looked normal. When he wasnt helping his family he was running around the forest or along a river, playing whit dogs. He loved all animals and had often picked up animals that were too small to live on they own or needed a bit of care. Well all animals except mouse. Mice were not welcomed and there were several cats making sure there arent any to eat.

He had not even thought to worry about being chosen as his brother turned 19 the year he turned 12. For him it was just something bad far away. Like the stories his brother were telling him before sleeping of the evil monster trying to eat up the bad boy. So when he was chose he didnt even understand exactly what it meant.

Name: Vesta Arc

Age: 15

Gender: Female

District: Five

Weapon of Choice: Knives, though she wouldn’t mind if she had to rely on something like a hacksaw or even a wrench. She is used to using tools as weapons.

Looks: Vesta has light brown locks that she usually keeps held up in a ponytail. When let down, however, her hair falls a few inches below her shoulders. Her eyes are a shade of gray that sometimes has a blue tint to it, but mostly they stay the color of thick smoke. She is around 5 feet and 2 inches tall and has a lean built to her body that is from not getting to eat as much as wealthier families. There is also a single freckle on her left check.

Personality: Vesta is a bit of hard character to get along with. Though she will observe the rules presented to her and she will follow them, that doesn’t mean she will groan and complain about them away from the public eye. Being the oldest in her family, she also tends to take care of her siblings when her parents were out working and she ruled over them with an iron fist. She also chased the rats away with the tools lying around the house. Her heart softens however, when it comes to the young children, the ones who don’t understand the brutality of life. When it comes to speaking with others, Vesta is very sarcastic and prideful, preferring not to let others know how poor and beaten down she is. If it ever comes to a fight, she won’t be the first to back down.

Background: Vesta was born into a family that was barely clinging on as it was. At the time, she had an older brother who she almost viewed as a god-like figure and seldom would you find the boy without Vesta following him close behind. As a young one, Vesta was more ignorant and innocent and just thought that any day now that her father would come home with a nice meal. However, when she was six, her eldest brother was killed for disobeying the law and was punished with death for stealing. Ever since that day, Vesta began to harbor a deep hatred for authority.
Years passed and the size of her family grew so that she had three younger siblings along with her mother and father; her older brother seemed to become only a mere memory. Fights often broke out between her and her sister who was only a few years younger than her, and her innocence slipped and an ego emerged.
On the day of the reaping, Vesta was dressed in her best and the only member of her family waiting there. It was like any other reaping, unimportant. Next year would be a bit harder since her sister would be turning twelve. But this year was like all the others. Naturally, she did not expect to hear her name called, well, what were the chances? Making her way up she had to convince herself that she could handle this. She had killed many rats before.
But humans are smarter than rats.

These are looking good! Maybe one or two more characters and I'll open the roleplay to a day before the Games. I was thinking, with the style of people's Background, we'll open on the day of the reaping, then write about training and such until we get a few more people to start the game.
